Handspinning Fleeces, Roving and Quilt Batting

We offer a few premium spinning fleeces each year.  Each fleece is heavily skirted, then washed and handpicked to remove any vegetable matter or debris so it comes to you clean and ready for spinning prep.  We are also happy to have your fleece commercially processed into roving if you'd prefer.

Please email if you have any questions or would like to reserve a fleece for 2010.  Fleeces are sold by weight after washing.  Yes, I will wash them for you :-).

We are getting ready for the spring shearing and I'll update this list as soon as I inspect each fleece.

Medium Wools

ford.jpg (79197 bytes) Ford - previously our breeding ram, now a Jacob wether - beautiful soft light gray and white fleece. This is the fleece I used last year to spin and knit Saint Tim's Christmas sweater.  It's always one of my favorites.    $16/lb
billy belly.jpg (97224 bytes) Billy Belly - Jacob wether - very soft and clean, more white than dark gray.  I had his 2008 fleece processed into core roving and it spun up into a really neat tweedy yarn.   2009 fleece paired with Allie - beautiful! Roving $2.50/oz
clover belly.jpg (186979 bytes) Clover Belly - Jacob ewe lamb - first shearing - very distinct black and white - no freckling.  She's a real cutie and this is looking like a very nice fleece - beautiful color. $15/lb
caspar belly.jpg (65143 bytes) Caspar Belly - Jacob ewe lamb - first shearing - mostly white.  You don't see Caspar Belly - aka Spooky Tooth - too far from momma.  Ever.  All of Emily's babies stay close by.  Billy Belly is her older son he stills sleeps next to her.  Clover Belly is her granddaughter.  Tough, independent bunch.  I haven't had my hands on her much, but the last time we did inspections, I thought her fleece looked very nice.  I like the ones heavy on the white - they tend to be softer and more luminescent. Roving $2.50/oz
beanie baby.jpg (73010 bytes) Beanie Baby - Jacob wether - well, now a wether - he's Clover Belly, Caspar Belly and Sunshine's father.  This is a very nice medium fleece.           $16/lb
little red.jpg (96056 bytes) Petunia - crossbred ewe lamb - first shearing - moorit (light brown) color - not coated, so her tips are sun bleached.  Medium to fine wool - very soft.  Isn't she just the cutest?  Like a little sheep Gerber baby  Roving $2.50/oz
boudreux in snow.jpg (95115 bytes) Boudreaux - black BL/CVM/Rambouillet cross - not coated, so his tips are sun bleached to a warm brown.  This sheep is as goofy as he looks.  He's more commonly known as Boudreaux the Biter because if he's not the center of your attention and scratchin', he'll bite you so you regain your "focus". Roving $2.50/oz

Long Wools

buddy needs a haircut.jpg (70708 bytes) Buddy - Cotswold wether - white - beautiful curls and luster.  Buddy is a good boy.  He's the only Cotswold who doesn't get in a fair amount of trouble...every day.  Oh, he's as smart as they are; he just has a conscience.  He's also the first sheep to welcome any newcomers to the flock. Roving $2.50/oz
little cots.jpg (85982 bytes) Woolliam - Cotswold wether - white - beautiful soft curls and luster.  Don't let this innocent face fool you.  Anything going on at all and you know that Woolliam is right smack in the middle of it.  Very jealous when Rebecca Boone got here and still tries to beat her up sometimes.  She thinks he's a twit. Roving $2.50/oz
rebecca boone face.jpg (119289 bytes) Rebecca Boone - colored Cotswold ewe - second shearing - light and dark grays - proceeds from this sale benefit the HCHS.  Rebecca got here right before a big storm and ended up getting tossed out with the whole flock before she normally would have.  No worries.  She jumped right in and within 3 days had figured out how to work the stall latch and let everyone out into the hay stash. Roving $2.50/oz
trick or treat 003.jpg (61013 bytes) Miss Ewenice - white Border Leicester - tight even curls and nice luster.  Ewenice loves to dress up and she knows she makes a fabulous princess.  She is the matriarch of the flock and takes good care of all her adopted kids.  She also comes up to greet me everyday and loves to have her face scratched.  She leans up against me and I feel like that's her way of giving me a hug.  She's a very sweet girl.   -  SOLD $14/lb

"Practice" Roving

We currently have three colors of Jacob "practice" roving available.  While not from our premium fleeces, these are still very nice quality and perfectly enjoyable.  I made several Christmas gifts using it and I'm very picky!
