The Adventure Chickens

In  August 2006 we built a chicken coop and got a small flock of chickens.
Twelve hens and a rooster.

Thanks Deb and Charlie for the design and construction help!

We read that free range chickens typically stay within100 yards of their coop.  The Adventure Chickens didn't read that book and we've even caught them up at the road, hitching rides into town. The Rhode Island Red hen and the two Black Stars are the most adventuresome, with the Dominique close on their tails.  She's a funny little hen who likes telling us ALL about her travels and if we could understand "chicken", we might be able to glean clues as to where she's laid her egg each day ;-).

The roost is attached with  removable pegs for easy cleaning.

The chicken door drops down to the inside to become a ramp.

With a pulley system so you can open and close the ramp door from the outside.
