The Chickens

At the beginning of August we built a chicken coop and got a small flock of chickens.
Twelve hens and a rooster.

Thanks Deb and Charlie for the design and construction help!

The girls are enjoying exploring their new home.  The Rhode Island Red hen and the two Black Stars are the most adventuresome, with the Dominique close on their tails.  She's a funny little hen who likes telling us ALL about her travels each day, and if we could understand "chicken", we might be able to glean clues as to where she's laid her egg each day ;-).

The roost is attached with  removable pegs for easy cleaning.

The chicken door drops down to the inside to become a ramp.

With a pulley system so you can open and close the ramp door from the outside.

The indoor dirt spa.

We got 5 eggs the first day!

T-Bone was all excited to play with the chicken coop...until the chickens arrived.  This protective screen is apparently unnecessary.
